Vehicles running on LPG

with a safety release valve
are permitted to board ships to Morocco and to Corsica.

Electric vehicles

In order to board our ships with complete peace of mind, the battery charge level of your electric vehicle must be between 20% and 80%.

Transporting electric vehicles on board our ferries

To date, there are no specific regulations governing the transport of electric or hybrid vehicles on board ships, only recommendations from the EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) and the insurance sector.

La Méridionale is aware of the safety issues associated with the development of the vehicle fleet, and has adopted a proactive approach. We are actively participating in the working group coordinated by Armateurs de France, alongside other shipping companies and the Marseille Fire Brigade (BMPM), in order to closely monitor technical developments, best practice and feedback.

At the same time, a number of concrete measures have been put in place on board our fleet:

  • Risk analyses have been carried out ship by ship to identify the most suitable parking areas.
  • Our General Terms and Conditions of Sale have been amended to prohibit the charging of electric vehicles on board.
  • Our reservation system now asks passengers to specify the type of propulsion of their vehicle. This information is checked at check-in and taken into account for boarding.
  • Our crews are trained and have specific fire-fighting equipment for lithium-ion batteries.
  • Each electric or hybrid vehicle is issued with a badge to be affixed to the windscreen, making it easy to find on board. These vehicles are parked in specific areas with suitable clearances for surveillance rounds.
  • Our ships have been equipped with portable thermal imaging cameras to enhance early detection of thermal anomalies.
  • Lastly, the number of electric/hybrid vehicles is systematically shown on the LV manifest. There is no limit at present, but we are keen to have rigorous traceability.

The safety of our passengers, our crews and our ships remains our absolute priority. We will continue to actively monitor this issue and adapt our systems in line with regulatory and technological developments.

Motorbike trip feedback

So that your motorbike travels in the best possible conditions, we have dedicated parking spaces for two-wheelers on our parking decks.

Boarding staff on hand on the parking decks will stow your motorbike securely using straps and wedges to ensure it doesn't move during the crossing. If you wish, you can bring cloths (or a blanket) to add extra protection to your fairing.

Like this, the quality, safety and security of your crossing to Corsica or Morocco with your two-wheeler are guaranteed.
